What is an IP address?

An IP address is a unique number that identifies a computer or device connected to a network using the IP protocol.

IP addresses are available in two versions: IP V4 and IP V6.

IPv4

IPv4 is the fourth revision of IP (Internet Protocol). It is the first to be widely deployed. She is still in 2014 based on the majority of Internet

communications.

IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4) is a 32-bit number consisting of four numbers ranging from 0 to 255 (4 numbers of 8 bits, except for the last number

which can not exceed 254) separated by dots.

IPv6

IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) is a long 128-bit IP address (16 bytes) against 32 bits (4 bytes) to an IPv4 address. hexadecimal notation is used to

represent the address, and no longer uses the colon to separate the bytes, but the colon. This sign is used to separate component 8 groups of 16 bits of

IPv6 address.
