Introduction
Create your own apps for iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch: a dream for many of us! Some say that the Apple universe is closed, others that the programming languages for Apple are difficult to learn. But what is it really?
As far as I'm concerned, I think if you have a little bit of willpower, time and head ideas, you can do wonders on Apple portable devices. With this tutorial, I will introduce you to the wonderful world of iOS programming, that is to say the programming of applications for iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad, all versions.
It does not matter if you are perfect beginners in programming; if this is the case, you will just need a little more time to assimilate and put into practice everything that will be said in this tutorial. Soon, you will progress in leaps and bounds and you will be able to make applications that will enrich the App Store, the application platform dedicated to the Apple universe, and more specifically to iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
For this, you will have to learn how to use:
- Xcode, Apple's dedicated development environment;
- Objective-C, the language (mainly) dedicated to programming Apple's portable devices.
- Your learning will be very progressive and I'm sure you will pass all the steps of the perfect programmer successfully.
About this tutorial
Smartphones, tablets, these ultra-portable devices are now ubiquitous in our daily lives. There are applications for almost everything: editing your photos, booking a movie, reviewing the rules of the road, choosing a recipe, turning and editing video clips, or finding the nearest restaurants.
Behind these applications there is a specific know-how for programming on mobile platforms. In fact, unlike conventional computers, the constraints imposed by the characteristics of these terminals mean that certain "simple gestures" for the user, such as scrolling a list of data, actually imply more complex mechanisms.
The goal, if you follow this course carefully and perform the proposed exercises, is to make yourself autonomous in the realization of applications for the ecosystem iOS (the last exercise is also a game of skill). You will also be able to work not only in the Apple development environment but also in similar environments. The exercises are done under iOS10, published in September 2016. We therefore recommend the use of Xcode 8 or later (free access on the Apple website).
This course is mainly intended for people already familiar with object programming. It is derived from a 5th year teaching unit (Master 2) taught at the University Pierre and Marie Curie, the first university to have proposed in France, in 1967, a degree in computer science. It also takes into account the many returns of MOOCs that took place in 2014 and 2015.
If you are interested in this subject, do not hesitate to register and to follow us. I received several testimonials from past participants in 2014 and 2015 who have shifted to mobile programming after participating in one of the previous editions.
What will you learn?
- to use the xCode development environment
- the objective language-C
- Swift language (version 3)
- view management in iOS
- Event management from the user interface in ioS
